Alfred first married Mary S. Record in 1855; they were divorced in 1861. After service in the Civil War, Alfred lived in Texas for a number of years. Alfred married Eliza (Cooper) Jasper in 1868 and subsequently divorced. In 1871 he married Sarah Benningfield, and they later divorced. Alfred returned to Maine around 1885, and married Olivia (Doane) Finson in 1886. The death records of both Alfred and Olivia state that the burial was in Enfield, but there are no existing markers.
