On February 21, 1833, Susan was married, in Orange Township, Ashland County, to Samuel Chilcote. She was the daughter of William and Nancy Craig Hatfield. Her mother having died in 1823, she had been reared by strangers from the age of seven, until an older sister, Marian, was married to James Worley, and she then made her home with them, and came to Ashland County on their removal there. Following Samuel's death,she lived with her three sons.
