Thomas Fleming, son of Malcolm, was born near Cookstown, in the parish of Derryloren, County of Tyrone, in Ulster Province, Northern Ireland, about 1720. His father died before 1730. Thomas was a yeoman and lived in Ireland until 1751 when he and his wife Mary came to America. They were baptised in the Presbyterian church on the Loy hill, in Cookstown, and both were members of that church. They received normal letters of dismissal from the church in Cookstown. In New Jersey they first settled near the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, where Thomas served as an elder. In June, 1783, Thomas removed from Bethlehem to Vienna (Hackettstown) in Sussex County, (now Warren County), N. J., about twenty miles north of his old home, where he settled on a tract of land containing fourteen hundred acres. His will was recorded and proven August 17, 1784.
