Betty M. King, 84, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Alexander and Mabel (Keith) Laing. She married Robert N. King in June 1947 in Altoona, and he died in November 1996 after having shared 49 years of marriage.
Surviving are three daughters: Jean R. Koch of Altoona, Linda L. Higgins of Montoursville and Kathy E. Ardizzone and husband, Nicola, of Altoona; a son, Robert N. Jr. and wife, Patty, of Verona, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Jean E. Laing of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Wayne Allen; a sister, Priscilla Hettler; and a brother, Thomas.
Betty was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School. She worked in the high school cafeteria, was employed by Proctor Silex, and retired from Weis Markets, Altoona, where she maintained the salad bar. She was a member of Altoona Alliance Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years, and she loved children.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Altoona Alliance Church, 3220 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, Pastor Timothy McGarvey officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
