Charley was born in Taylorsville, Mississippi. He moved to Kemp in Kaufman County in 1910, where he operated a barber shop until he moved to Waco, Texas in 1930. He was the manager of the Baylor Barber Shop at the time of his retirement in 1954. He was a past master of Kemp Masonic Lodge No.528, A.F. and A.M.and had been a member of that lodge since 1912. He was past worthy patron of the Kemp Chapter No. 685 of the Eastern Star. Charley married Miss Pearl Ann Pipes July 3, 1912 in Kemp, Texas. They had two daughters. Maxine Dutschmann and Edna Kennedy. A brother Robert Gunn of Laurel, Miss., a half-brother, Clarence Coley; three half-sisters, Mrs.D.C.Davis, Mrs.O.T.Hill and Miss Bama Coley; all of Laurel, Miss. A grandson, Tox Kennedy.
