Biography: One of the heroic "Old Defenders" of Baltimore during the War of 1812. Served during the Battle of Baltimore as a Private in James Sterrett's company of First Baltimore Hussars—part of the Maryland Militia's 5th Regimental Cavalry District based out of Baltimore City. What makes Henry Dorsey Scott unique is the fact that he also served in the United States Navy. After the war, on May 30th, 1816, he was commissioned as a Midshipman. Nearly ten years later, on April 28th, 1826, he was promoted to Lieutenant.

His obituary from the 20 February 1830 edition of the Baltimore Patriot:

On Tuesday last, at the residence of his mother, in this city, HENRY D. SCOTT, late a Lieut. in the U. S. Navy, in the 37th year of his age. He left a widow and a large circle of relations and friends to mourn his loss.

Note: The Dorsey family tree which was compiled by Thomas Horace Arrell Browne in 1926 lists him as being "lost at sea," but contemporary newspaper records seem to suggest otherwise.
