Mary Aycock Ellis, age 87, of Pine Level passed away Saturday evening, August 23, 2014. Born in Johnston County on November 6, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lala Edwards Aycock. Her husband was the late Donald "Donnie" Ellis. Mrs. Ellis was also preceded in death by a daughter Suette Sullivan, a grandson Timothy Dwayne Slaughter, a brother Thomas Aycock and sisters Agnes Batten and Pearl Wells.

Mary Ellis graduated from Micro High School in the 11th grade. She returned the following year to graduate the 12th grade; that being the first year the North Carolina Schools had 12 grades. She then went on as an Advanced Student to Atlantic Christian College and graduated from the Bookkeeping Program. In her later years, she graduated with the first class for Certified Nursing Assistants from Johnston Community College. Mrs. Ellis was a member of Pine Level Original Free Will Baptist Church where she was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class and the Women's Auxiliary.
