Emma G. Rumford
Emma G. Rumford, 100, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at Franklin United Methodist Community. She was a resident of Franklin.
She was born Aug. 19, 1897, in Marion County. Her parents were William Albert and Martha Maria (VanSickle) Askren. She married Samuel S. Rumford Sr. on May 20, 1921. He preceded her in death June 8, 1978. Survivors include a son, Samuel S. Rumford Jr. of Fountaintown; a daughter, Gaylle Criswell of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church; Phi Kappa Sigma; Lawrence Chapter 384 Order of Eastern Star, where she was a past worthy matron; Women's Society of Old Bethel; and Warren Central PTA, where she was past president. She was also a 4-H Club leader and a member of American Red Cross Canteen and American Farm Bureau, where she was Marion County Women's Leader for 10 years.
The Rev. Gregory McGarvey will conduct a service at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Old Bethel United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Franklin United Methodist Community Memory Room, where an Eastern Star service will be conducted at 7 p.m., and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Friday at Old Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Anderson Cemetery in Indianapolis. Arrangements are being handled by Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Indianapolis.
