MASSENA – Mr. Richard D. Schuler, 60, of 28 Alden Street, passed away at his home on Saturday morning, September 21, 2013, where he was under the loving care of his family and Hospice.

Richard was born March 28, 1953 in Massena, the son of the late Albert and Helen Graver Schuler. He first attended St. Mary's Catholic School before attending and graduating from Sir John A. MacDonald High School in Toronto. He then went to Algonquin College in Pembroke, Ontario, where he achieved his Associates Degree in Forestry. On November 10, 1973, he married Kathryn A. Dench at the Holy Spirit Church in Toronto.

Richard was a maintenance mechanic and supervisor for Alcoa, having worked in both the East and West Plant, retiring in 2002. After his retirement, he went to work for Dew Industries in Ogdensburg, retiring due to illness.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus St. Lawrence Council #1141. He enjoyed hunting, fishing with his son, golfing, repairing cars, and spending time with his family and dog, Brady.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Schuler Egan and her husband, Nathan of Boston; his son, Eric D. Schuler and his companion, Carrie Durant of Massena; two brothers and their wives, David and Diane Schuler of London, Ontario, Albert and Priscilla Schuler of Virginia and a sister-in-law, Louise Beney of Fergus, Ontario. He was also a beloved uncle to Carson, Jordan, Zoey and Gavin Beney.

Friends may call at Tuesday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at 7:30 PM for a memorial ritual. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home, Wednesday 2:00 PM with Rev. Jack L. Downs, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
