They moved to Xenia (Miami Co.), Indiana, mentioned in a news item Aug. 13, 1874. (Newton's mother, Jane Stuckey Gant Peele, was also residing in Xenia.) Newton had returned to Elizabethtown by April, 1877, and was reported on the 1880 census as divorced.

Newton Gant, of Elizabethtown, died in that village yesterday and will be buried at the Section graveyard today. His death was the result of injuries received several years ago in a runaway accident.
