Burial was at the Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday, Jan. 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Black officiating.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Margaret (Peg) T. Heckendorn; two sons, Ted A. Heckendorn (Ann) of Beavercreek, Ohio and Steven E. Heckendorn (Nancy) of Christiansburg, Va.; and three grandchildren, Emily, Wesley, and Kathryn.
Born Dec. 2, 1926, in Massillon, Ed was the only child of Edward B. and Ella F. (Stedman) Heckendorn. After graduating from Massillon Washington High School in 1944, Ed attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and met his future wife, Peg Hale from Marion, Ohio. Following service in the 808th Engineer Aviation Battalion of the U.S. Army at the end of World War II, he returned to Ohio Wesleyan and graduated in 1950. That same year Ed married Peg on Aug. 5, they settled in Wooster, and he began a career as a cost accountant for The Wooster Brush Co. Eventually Ed would become the plant personnel manager, a position that he held until his retirement in 1991. Ed was very active in the community, serving as an officer or board member of various organizations, including Kiwanis, United Way, and the American Cancer Society. He and Peg were members of the Wooster United Methodist Church. In 2005 they moved to Blacksburg to live near their son.
