Services: 1 p.m. Friday at St. Helen Catholic Church.

Mrs. Soledad Ontiveros, 69, of Clovis, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Laurel Ridge Nursing Home in Clovis.

She was born Dec. 20, 1935, to Tomasa and Alejandro Leyba in Chihuahua, Mexico.

She married Abel Ontiveros on Jan. 25, 1950, in Ojinaga, Mexico. They made their home in Mexico until 1959 when they moved to Muleshoe. They lived in West Texas and eastern New Mexico for the next 21 years. They moved to Portales in 1980.

Family members said she was a wonderful wife and mother. Her greatest joy came from being a grandmother, they said.

She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Hijinio and Jesus Manuel Leyba; and her husband, Abel Ontiveros who died Aug. 25, 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Eduvijes “Vicky” Sanchez of Portales; 10 sons, Alejandro Ontiveros of Muleshoe, Alonso (and wife, Jerria) Ontiveros of Muleshoe, Abel (Ruth) Ontiveros of Goodland, Kan., Alvaro Ontiveros of Hobbs, Alberto Ontiveros, Arnoldo Ontiveros and Armando Ontiveros, all of Portales; Artemio Ontiveros of Bovina, Arturo (Veronica) Ontiveros and Adan Ontiveros, both of Portales; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Helen Catholic Church. The mass of the resurrection will be celebrated.

Father Tobin Hitt will officiate the service.

Burial will be in Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Abel Jerome Ontiveros III, Alex Jason Ontiveros, Alonso Ontiveros Jr., Roberto (Tako) Sanchez, Cruz Ontiveros and Alvaro Ontiveros Jr.

Honorary pallbearers are Travis (Antonio) Price as well as all family members and friends.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
