AVILTON — Albert Freeman Garlitz, 69, of 341 Green Lantern Road, Lonaconing, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born June 30, 1933, at Avilton, Maryland, he was the son of the late William and Mary (McKenzie) Garlitz. Mr. Garlitz was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa; one grandchild; eight brothers; and six sisters. Mr. Garlitz had been employed by Buffalo Coal Company and was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Shrine. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Marie (Warner)Garlitz; four sons, Terry Garlitz and wife, Joyce, and Eugene Garlitz and wife Mary Ann, all of Frostburg, Keith Garlitz and wife, Rita, Grantsville, and Richard Garlitz, Avilton; three daughters, Brenda Ritchie and husband, Dean, Frostburg, Renee Garlitz and husband Robert, Grantsville, and Katrina Mason and husband, David, Avilton; two sisters, Beulah Hetz, Avilton, and Freda Minick, Barton; 15 grandchildren; one step granddaughter; and two step grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller Street, Grantsville, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Ann’s Shrine, Avilton, on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Albert J. Anselmi officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. The rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 3:30 pm in the funeral home. Contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
