Ganado Pioneer Succumbs

GANADO - Miss Jen Mauritz, 86, member of a Pioneer Ganado family known for its philanthropic acts, died here Thursday.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. James Lutheran Church, with the Rev. William Hill, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the Ganado City Cemetery under direction of Psencik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be A.W. "Pel" Swenson, M.H. Brock, Hunter Thomas, Muritz Combs, Tye Strauss, Carol M. Swenson and Robin Bauerle.
Miss Maruitz, an aunt of state Sen. Bill Patman's wife, Carrin was the last surviving of the seven children of the late T.N. and Maria Mauritz, pioneers in the Ganado area. She was born April 3, 1891 in Ceresco, Neb. The family moved to Ganado in 1895.
I 1907 the family moved to Hutto, where she attended Southwestern College and then worked in a bank at Hutto. Earlier she had attended Bethany Academy in Kansas. In 1925 she and her parents and sisters moved to Austin, where Miss Mauritz became active in the Lutheran Church and civic organizations. After the death of her parents, she moved to Victoria in 1966, where she also was active in business and church work and organizations including the Bronte Club.
She moved back to Ganado in 1971, and had been in ill health for some time. Her brothers were the late T.N., Harry and Sen. Fred Mauritz. Her sisters were the late Pauline Combs, Sally Swenson and Nellie Mauritz. her personal philanthropies included the church and hospital and other service groups.
