Daniel was born on Friday, Jan. 17, 1913 in Heron, Mont., the son of Elijah Esterbrook DeLong and Mary Louise (nee Knott) Taylor.

He was married to Avis Bernice McElhoe on Jul 17, 1942 in Sand Point, ID. They had two sons.

Daniel Cleave DeLong passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2003, at his home in Kalispell.

He was born in Heron, on January 17 1913, to Elijah and Louise (Knott) Delong.
Daniel received his early education in Heron before moving to Kalispell in the 1930s, where he worked in the lumber industry.
He also worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps before moving to Carnation, Washington in 1940.
Daniel worked at the Carnation Farms where he met Avis McElhoe.
They were married on July 17, 1941. in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Daniel enlisted in the Army on February 3 1942 and served his country in Guadalcanal for 21 months where he received two bronze stars.

Shortly after he returned in 1945, Daniel settled with his family in the Flathead Valley.
Daniel worked in the woods until he and Avis were able to purchase their first ranch in Holt.
They raised black Angus cattle here until selling in 1966 and purchasing a ranch in Creston to expand their capacity.

In 1976 after over 20 years of ranching, Daniel and Avis retired and became snow-birds.
For the next 24 years they enjoyed traveling the country from Maine to Florida to Texas and up into Canada.
In his younger days Daniel loved hunting, fishing and camping; especially with his dear friend Bud Withey.
He was proud of his ten straight seasons when he was able to take an elk

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years. Avis;
two sons, Jim and Carol DeLong of Las Vegas, and Larry DeLong of Multifteo. Washington:
and two grandsons. Charlie and Allen DeLong, both of Las Vegas.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Johnson Mortuary with Pastor Ron Pierce officiating.
Burial will follow at the Glacier Memorial Gardens.
