PORTLAND - Marie A. Davidson, 84, entered heaven on April 3, 2006.

Since the passing of her husband, Joseph B. Davidson, in June of 2003, she had been a resident of Fallbrook Woods Assisted Living Facility in Portland.

Marie was born on Jan. 23, 1922, a daughter of Clifford and Elsie Skillins Atherton of Windham. She was educated in Windham schools and graduated from Windham High School, Class of 1939, where she was a member and captain of the girls' basketball team.

During World War II, she worked as a waitress at Bentley's Restaurant in Portland. In 1951, she married the man who would become her life long partner and friend, Joseph Davidson. Together they built a home and raised their children in the North Deering section of Portland.

In her earlier years, Marie was an active member of the North Deering Congregational Church, the Summit Community Club and Riverside Golf Course.

Her favorite pastimes included blueberry picking with her sisters, spending summers at the family camp on Little Sebago Lake, playing golf with her husband and watching the Boston Celtics basketball games. She will be remembered most fondly by her family and friends for her tremendous sense of humor.

Marie was predeceased by her husband of 52 years; and her sisters, Doris Webb, Marcia Allen, Arlene Timmons, Avis Cole, Roberta Knight and Dawn Stuart.

She is survived by two sons, Donald A. Davidson and his wife Julie of Portland, and Paul C. Davidson of Belen, N.M.; a daughter, Susan D. LaPointe and her husband Thomas of Fryeberg.

She leaves six grandchildren, Nancy and Patricia Davidson, Joseph and Julia Davidson, Benjamin and Stephanie LaPointe and a great-granddaughter, Paige Marchand. She is also survived by her brother Frank Atherton of Windham and her sister Lois Hill of North Conway, N.H.

A visiting hour will be held from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on Friday at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m. The Rev. Joseph Doherty will officiate.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to the wonderful administration and care workers of Fallbrook Woods and Beacon Hospice.
