Southold - After two weeks of intense suffering caused by a broken hip, Miss Abbie Moore Ledyard passed away at the E L I Hospital last Friday. All her long life was passed in this village and was one of industry and general helpfulness. She was the leading dressmaker for over half a century and could ply the needle with exquisite art. She had passed her 84th milestone but until illness forced her to rest, she was busy and even then her advice was sought.
She was very proud of her ancestry, which she could clearly trace back to Col William Ledyard of Fort Griswold fame, and John Ledyard the traveler was also in direct line. She will be greatly missed by a host of friends and relatives.
Her funeral was largely attended from her late home in this village on Monday afternoon. A former beloved pastor, Rev Marsland of Amityville, gave a beautiful talk upon her life as he knew it. Her present pastor, Rev Shrigley added words of comfort and the Rev Mr Conklin offered a benediction upon the departed friend. The burial was in the Presbyterian cemetery.
