Ruth E. J. Metschke was born July 18, 1919, in Snyder to Herman and Anna (Dietrich) Metschke. She attended Dodge County Rural School District 41 through fourth grade and then attended St. Peter's School in Snyder before graduating from Snyder High School on May 17, 1936, as the valedictorian. She went on to attend the Boyles Business School in Omaha and returned to the farm. She married Harold Beck on May 29, 1940, in Snyder. The couple farmed in the Snyder area.
