Daniel Paul Bachich, 82, of Hebron, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at home with family. He was born on October 17, 1930 in Gary, IN to John and Sophie (Skorich) Bachich and graduated from Gary Emerson High School. Daniel served during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Randall with a honorable discharge in 1951. He also served with the Gary Police Department from 1958–1978 as Patrolman, Detective, and retiring as Sergeant. After retirement, Daniel worked security management for various businesses. Danny will also be remembered by many as the bartender at R-Place in Merrillville, working alongside Ron Papp laughing and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Dan was a member of F.O.P. Lodge #61, Eagles Lodge #2413 in Gary, Polish National Association #2365 in Gary, American Legion Post #289 in Merrillville, and attended Lakes of the Four Seasons United Methodist Church. On October 23, Danny and Ami (Amelia J. Cavanaugh) would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. He had a special bond and love with each of their five children: (Suzanne) Kim Genovese of Valparaiso, Robert Paul Bachich of Norwich, CT, Staci Dawn Erway of Naperville, IL, Michele Elise Meyne of Chicago, IL, and Todd Christopher (Faith) Bachich of Hebron, grandchildren: Eric (Rikka) Erway, David "D.J." Meyne, Nicole Genovese (Martin Vespo), Ryan Genovese, Matthew (Kim) Bachich, Kristyn (Al) Blakely and Gwendolyn Carreon; and five great grandchildren: Karson, Bryce, Julia, Kamden, and Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Robert "Bobby" Bachich; sister, Joanne "Chickie" Storey; grandson, Tadd J. Bachich; and son- in-law, James D. Genovese. He will also be missed by his extended family and friends. Visitation Friday, September 20, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso with Rev.
