Julia was only daughter born to John Smither and Mary 'Polly' Patience Greenway and the last child born in Virginia before the family migrated to Tennessee where her last two brother's were born.
Her dad had not done well in business in Culpeper Co. which stirred their move 1824 to Huntingdon, Carroll Co Tennessee. (In 1830 census). They later moved to New Orleans, Louisiana (in 1840 census) and finally in 1839 they moved to Huntsville, Walker Co Texas where they helped in their son Robert Goodloe's mercantile business. They were among the founding families of that area and were acquainted with the Sam Houston family. The store's ledger was handed down in the family and has General Sam Houston's account in the ledger.
They lived in the Cline's Prairie community, about eight miles northeast of Huntsville on present day Farm Road 980 "Smither's Farm Road." Actually the Smither farm was so vast that it extended beyond this community. The family was adamant about keeping the SMITHER name in tact as such and that they did to not be confused with
Smithers. At Hunstville library a copy of the Smither bible totally confirms this.
John and Mary had 7 sons and a dau documented, but apparently had two other sons died young, as 10 sons
listed in 1830 census.

1850 census John was a farmer living west of Huntsville, near the Bowden or Gates area, worth $250. John died Huntsville September 1860 at 81yo.
Mary died there October 7 1867 at 76yo.
Both buried Huntsville Oakwood Cemetery about 100 paces northwest of Sam Houston's grave in wrought iron fenced family plot as are most of their families including
Julia and presumably her 2nd husband Washington J Visor,
a Confederate Vet, son of William Washington Viser VA and Rachel Brazelton NC.

Julia and Washington married Montgomery Co Tex
Mar 30 1844 and would have 4 children
one named for Sam Houston.
