Waynesville - Jesse Clarence Timms Jr., 80, died on Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at his residence.
Jesse was born in Belton, S.C. on April 23, 1926, the son of the late Jesse Clarence Timms Sr. and Louise King Timms. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Ray Timms and a sister, Clara Jean Balentine. He was a U.S. Navy Air Corps veteran of World War II having served for three years with the rank of Second Class Aviation Ordinanceman. He was a retired area maintenance engineer for the E.I. Dupont Company, Savannah River Plant, in Aiken, S.C. for more than 32 years. He was an active member of Calvary Road Baptist Church and helped with the youth programs. He was a Scout Master, little league baseball coach, and co-founder of elementary school Pee-Wee Football League. He coached Aiken Elementary Pee-Wee football for 13 years and took great pride in following the careers of His Boys which included the election of a U.S. Senator and a Super Bowl Champion.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Shirley Timms; three sons, Samuel Jarod Timms, Michael Barnett Timms, and Joseph Patrick Timms; five grandchildren, Allison Louise Timms, Austin E. Leigh White, Robert Jarod Timms, Sarah Elizabeth Timms, and Samuel Jarod Timms Jr; two greatgrandchildren, Abraham Patrick White and Anderson James White; and one sister, Willie Ann Cook.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, S.C. with the Revs. J.D. Grant and Frank Hopkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial to Turnbull Student Ministry, c/o Baptist Haiti Mission, 118 Courtland, Rockford, MI
