Rachel was married on April 17, 1940, to Harry Thomas Jacobs who died on May 10, 1998. Rachel was one of ten children; she had seven brothers and two sisters.
During her last illness, she mentioned numerous times that she would be older when she died than any of her siblings had been at their deaths.
Rachel was the mother of three daughters, all of whom survive, Sarah J. Browning of South Charleston, W. Va., Annie Lee Jacobs of Charlottesville, and Susie Salvagni of Hagerstown, Md. She claimed their husbands, James L. Browning, Charles Kirk Pilkington and Paul W. Salvagni as her sons. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A country homemaker and farm wife, Rachel will be remembered fondly by her friends and family for her cookies, her chickens and their fresh eggs, her garden and the fresh, canned and frozen vegetables from it, her saving and reusing everything possible, (She was recycling long before the rest of the world used the word), her love of the outdoors, her hard work and her fierce independence.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Ryan Funeral Chapel, Quinque, with the Rev. Ray Deck officiating. Interment will follow at the Warrenton Cemetery in Warrenton.
