Mr. Droegemeier was born May 16, 1924, at Geneseo to Louis Walter and Carrie Ann Stackhouse Droegemeier. He was a lifetime resident of Geneseo, where he was a mail clerk for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He retired from the Rice County Highway Department in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, both at Geneseo.
He married Deloris Irene Monroe Dec. 7, 1949, at Lyons. She died July 16, 2000.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Droegemeier; three brothers, Della, Frances and Gene Droegemeier; and a sister, LaVerne Anderson.
Survivors include: a son, Terry, and his wife, Valarie, Droegemeier of Geneseo; a daughter, Sharon, and her husband, Bill, Robertson of Bothell, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, the Rev. Robert Friesen officiating. Burial will be in the Geneseo Cemetery with military honors by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Manor or the Arthritis Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
