Max Fischer was born in Germany and trained there as a master stone and brick mason. In 1902, he married Ida Kedsch, and they set off for America.

They settled in Milwaukee, WI, where their first child, Walter, was born on the 4th of July. (He always said he was a "Yankee Doodle Dandy.")

After raising their children together, Max and Ida were divorced, and Max was married to Rose.
