Spaeth – Knoeck

St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Barton on Tuesday morning was the scene of a pretty wedding. The bridegroom was Adam Spaeth of this city and his fair bride was Miss Anna Knoeck of the town of Barton. The ceremony, which began at 9 o’clock, was performed by Rev. Ruhmann. The attendants were Sebastian Spaeth and Miss Elizabeth Knoeck. The happy young couple, in the evening, left on a wedding trip to Marshfield and other places in the northern part of the state. The groom is the brewmaster of the West Bend Brewing Co. He is a model young man and very adept in his chosen profession. His bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Knoeck of the town of Barton. She is a young lady of many graces, who should make an ideal helpmate to her husband. The newlyweds will reside in the groom’s residence on North Main Street. They have the best wishes of scores of friends for a heaped measure of happiness in married life.

Spaeth Celebrates 25th Milestone as Brewmaster Here

On April 9, Adam Spaeth marked his 25th anniversary as brewmaster at the West Bend Lithia Company. In December of this year Mr. Spaeth will have been with the company 34 years. Born 55 years ago in June, 1885 in the town of West Bend, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Spaeth, Adam entered the employ of the Lithia Company, then the West Bend Brewing Company at the age of 21 years.
Mr. Spaeth was employed in the bottlehouse when he began his career with the brewery. From October, 1914 to April, 1915 he attended the Hanke Brewer School in Milwaukee. On April 28, 1915 he turned out his first beer as brewmaster of the local brewery. In that year Mr. Spaeth succeeded the late Julius Koerber as brewmaster here because Mr. Koerber had accepted a similar position with the Cream City Brewing Company in Milwaukee.
The late Andrew Pick and Stephan Mayer owned the brewery at the time Mr. Spaeth entered its employ in 1906. In 1911, control of the company passed into the hands of the Walter family and Julius Koerber. The Walter family took sole control when Mr. Koerber severed his connections to go to Milwaukee.
On January 1, 1935, Mr. Spaeth was granted a certificate of membership in the Master Brewers’ Association of America, which stamps him as one of the foremost members of his profession.
Mr. Spaeth has an enviable record for long and faithful service with one company, a tribute to him and a record of which he may be justly proud. His many friends will join with us in extending congratulations to him and best wishes for many more successful years at the trade.
