William Dickerson Chew was born in Ann Arundel County Maryland in either the year 1771 or 1774. Some time in the 1790's William Chew moved to Frederick County Virginia. It is said that he married, first, Susanna Hancher and then later married her sister, Lydia. After the birth of sons Ezekiel and James Chew in 1805, William Chew moved with his family to Jefferson County (became Harrison County in 1813) Ohio and for a while lived in the vicinity of Short Creek Township. In the early 1820s, William Chew and family moved to Richland County Ohio.

This headstone was found amongst Samuel Chew (1810-1887), his wife Mary A, and "Lydia" (The first name was all I could make of her headstone).
