On Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, the Lord called our beloved pastor, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Pastor Benjamin Franklin Cubbage Jr., 86, of Elkton, who departed this life at Bible Way Church of God in Christ, ending his earthly journey.

Elder Cubbage was born Nov. 30, 1926, in Rockingham County near Elkton, to the late Benjamin Franklin Sr. and Frances Bryant Cubbage. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mae Williams Cubbage, in 2005; two sons, Benjamin F. Cubbage III and Michael Cubbage; a grandson and a granddaughter; brothers, Samuel, Wyatt, George and John Henry; and sisters, Margaret, Thelma and Virginia.

Elder Cubbage was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific. He had previously been employed by Merck & Co. and was founder and pastor of the Bible Way Church of God in Christ, near Elkton for 40 years.

Survivors include his children, Leewood Davis and wife, Alice, David Cubbage and wife, Amanda, Timothy Cubbage, Todd Cubbage, Beulah Thomas and husband, David, Charlotte Majors and husband, Jesse, Barbara Freeman and husband, Eddie, and Sharon Hodgins, all of Elkton; daughter-in-law, Constance Cubbage of Elkton; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces.

Superintendent William Ward Jr. will conduct a funeral service 3 Sunday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Burial will follow in the Bible Way Church of God in Christ Cemetery, with military rites by the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292.

The family will receive friends at the Bible Way Church of God in Christ, Runkles Gap Road, Elkton, on Saturday afternoon from 1 to 4, and afterward will return to the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with visitation from 6 to 9. Friends may call at the homes of his children at anytime.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
