FORMER DIAMOND FIGURE IS DEAD

Frank Guinn, retired machinist of the Southern Pacific Company, died at a local hospital Friday morning. A native of Kentucky, he was 71 years of age and had been in poor health for the last year. He had long made his home in Sparks.

Active in athletics in his younger days, Mr. Guinn played baseball in the Midwest, and upon coming to Nevada some thirty years ago was active in the sport here. He, together with Jack Threlkel, veteran Reno baseball figure, organized the original Threlkel's team in the Reno area.

In later years Guinn kept active as an umpire, and called games in Reno when baseball was played at a baseball diamond near Wells avenue. Guinn at one time was offered a contract with organized baseball as an umpire.

He was the father of Robert F. and Howard Guinn, both of Sparks, Mrs. Betty O'Sullivan of San Mateo, California, and Miss Edna Guinn of Newton, Kansas.

Also surviving are four brothers and sisters, W. E. Guinn of Long Beach, California, and Louis Guinn, Mrs. Daisy Loder and Miss Grace Guinn, all of Newton. He is survived also by seven grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are to be announced by the Ross-Burke Company.
