The 1855 Massachusetts state census shows her living with her family in Adams, age 20, born in New York circa 1835. She appeared similarly in the 1860 Federal census, but born circa 1836. Her 1900 death record (Mass. Deaths and Burials, 1795-1910) claims she was born in Kinderhook (Columbia Co.), NY in 1837. Her son Edward's death record (1907) also gives her birthplace as Kinderhook, NY. But in her 1857 marriage records ("Massachusetts Marriages, 1695-1910", FamilySearch.com) she claimed the age of 19 and the birth year of 1838.
On 7 February 1857 she married Burdick A. Stewart in Adams, Mass. They had three sons: Edward C., Charles H., and Burdick A. Stewart, Jr. After her husband died in the Civil War (1864), she never remarried, and was a longtime widow when she died, claiming the age of 63, in North Adams. She was buried beside the grave of her husband in Hillside Cemetery.

"Mrs. Adelia A. Stewart, 63, died yesterday morning at her home on Jackson street. She had been in poor health for many years, but her last sickness began only two weeks ago. Mrs. Stewart was a native of Kinderhook, N. Y., but her parents moved to North Adams when she was a child and the remainder of her life was in that city. She was the widow of Burdick A. Stewart, who died in the army in 1864. He and three of his brothers were members of what was originally the 10th regiment band. Mrs. Stewart's grandfather, John Van Bogart, was in the Revolutionary war and was a member of Washington's staff. She had been for many years a member of the Methodist church and was a highly respected woman. She leaves three sons, Edward C. and Charles A. Stewart of North Adams, and Burdick A. Stewart of Pittsfield. Rev. J. A. Hamilton will conduct the funeral services at her late home tomorrow afternoon, and the burial will be in Hillside cemetery."
