Dick and his twin brother, Don, were born in British Columbia. Attending courses at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, he sensed God's call to serve in cross-cultural missionary work. At the age of 20, he departed for China, the youngest missionary candidate ever accepted by the China Inland Mission. He served in Honan province from 1936, marrying Margaret Humphrey, a former classmate at BIOLA, staying until forced out by the Japanese in 1941. Following World War II, Dick and his family returned to Honan in 1947, this time being forced out in 1950 by the advancing communist forces. Shortly after returning to the U.S., Dick led an evangelistic team to the island of Formosa (now Taiwan) with the result of founding a new mission agency, now known as O.C. International. Following the death of his wife, Margaret, Dick married Ruth Kopperud, both passing away in 2005. [Bio by Richard Humphrey #47141124]
