Darlene E. Shantz, 75, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, at her residence.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul G. Sieveking, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, officiating. The body will be cremated. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, S.D. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shantz was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Dewey and Gwendolyn (Elskamp) Powell. She moved with her family to Sioux City as a child. She graduated from Central High School in 1940.
She married Edgar R. Shantz on Sept 19, 1943.The couple moved to Rapid City, S.D. in 1979. He died June 15th,1987. She returned to Sioux City in 1987.
She was employed with Wincharger Corporation and several department stores.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter; a son; 4 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two sisters and their husbands.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Memorials may be directed in care of the family.
