Luther Olin Tucker, 86, of Mason, West Virginia,
passed away Thursday evening, September 5, 2013,
at home. He was born August 16, 1927, to the late
Luther O. and Blanche (Parsons) Tucker.
He married Shirley (Oliver) Tucker on February 1,
1957. They were married for 56 years. She survives
along with four sons, Terry (Cathy) Tucker, Myrtle
Beach, SC; Tim (Medina) Tucker, Clifton, WV; Todd
Tucker, Mason, WV; Troy (Tammara) Tucker,
Chesapeake, Ohio; five grandchildren: Trisha Tucker,
Columbus, Ohio; Tiffany (Chris) Selvaggio, South
River, NJ; Crystal Tucker, Clifton, WV; Tyler Tucker,
Clifton, WV; Allie Sang, Huntington, WV; one
great-granddaughter: Charlotte Selvaggio, South
River, NJ; one brother: Ray ?Red? (Janie) Tucker,
Mason, WV; sister-in-law Joan Bennett, Clifton, WV;
brother-in-law Bob (Dorthy) Oliver, Mason, WV;
brother-in-law Bill Stump, Hilliard, Ohio; several
nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and
great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters
and their spouses: June (Pete) VanMetre, Wanda
(John) Dixon, Nina Stump, and Faye (Jiggy) Russell.
A 1945graduate of Wahama High School, he attended
Ohio University for one year playing on a football
scholarship. Luther then played professional baseball
in the minor leagues, playing for the Braves, Giants,
Tigers, and White Sox organizations. He was a great
catcher and later player for the old Hartford Tigers.

He worked at Celanese Plant (later known as Stauffer
Chemical Company) and later retired from the Ohio
Power Company (General James M. Gavin Plant) in
September 1989. After retirement, he worked for the
Division of Motor Vehicles, Pamida Department Store,
and Bob's Market and Greenhouses where he
attended the flowers and the safety of the staff.
He was an inaugural member of the Wahama High
School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Luther never met a stranger. He talked to everyone he
saw, and loved his hugs. If he didn't know your name,
he would make a point to learn that much about you
and more. If you asked him, ?how are you today??,
he always replied, ?fat and sassy.?
Funeral services will be Monday, September 9, 2013,
at 1:00 p.m., at Foglesong-Roush Funeral Home in
Mason, WV. Calling hours will be Sunday, September
8, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral
home.
Flowers are welcome. Donations may be sent to
Mason United Methodist Church, Mason, WV, or
Pleasant Valley Hospice, 1011 Viand Street, Point
Pleasant, WV, 25550. Special thanks to Martha,
Vickie, and everyone at PVH Hospice for making his
final days comfortable.
Luther was a great father, husband, and friend to
everyone. He will be greatly missed.
