Emigrated from Germany with her parents in 1886. Grew up on their homestead farm in Spink County, South Dakota. Married August Tams September 3, 1901. Co-owner of the Royal Hotel in Huron, SD with her husband from 1919-29. Sole owner after his death in 1929. After the building was destroyed by fire in 1943, she built the Tams Hotel on the same site and operated it until her death.
