Benjamin Brewster, s. of Dea. William Brewster and Lydia Partridge, b. of record July 7, 1688 at Duxbury, Mass. He d. intestate of record Nov. 7, 1752 at Preston, Conn. Benjamin was the paternal gr.grandson of Elder William Brewster of the 1620 Mayflower and Plymouth Colony. Through his mother, Benjamin was the maternal descendant of Stephen Tracy, who arrived at Plymouth, Mass. in 1623 aboard the Little Ann.

Benjamin was twice married. He m. 1) Oct. 16, 1713 at Preston, Conn., Elizabeth Witter, dau. of Ebenezer Witter and Dorothy Morgan, b. Mar. 3, 1694/5 at Preston where she d. Feb. 21, 1740/1. Nine children of the marriage. Benjamin m. 2) June 10, 1741 at Preston, Sarah Caulkins, who survived him and d. intestate before Jan. 16, 1765 when her estate inventory was taken at Preston. Sarah was not as claimed in multiple websites the daughter of Hugh Calkins and Phebe Abellof Norwich, Conn. (See her memorial for details.)

The children of Benjamin and 1st wife Elizabeth Witter, all b. as well as bapt. of record at Preston, Conn., are:

• i. William Brewster, b. Sept. 16, 1714; m. 1) Damaris Gates, by whom he had six children, and 2) Esther Sabin, by whom he had eight more children.
• ii. Grace Brewster, b. Apr. 7, 1717; not included in father's 1752 estate.
• iii. Simon Brewster, b. June 10, 1720; living in 1765.
• iv. Judah Brewster, b. Apr. 7, 1723; d.y.
• v. Abel Brewster, b. May 22, 1725; living in 1765.
• vi. Judah Brewster, b. Feb. 27, 1728/9; not included in father's 1752 estate.
• vii. Elizabeth Brewster, b. Oct. 27, 1732; living in 1765.
• viii. Amos Brewster, b. June 22, 1735; living in 1765.
• ix. Cyrus Brewster, b. Aug. 18, 1738; living in 1765.

The children of Benjamin and 2nd wife Sarah Caulkins, b. or only bapt. of record at Preston, Conn., are:

• x. Jonas, or Jonah Brewster, b. June 16, 1742; was administrator of his mother's 1765 estate.
• xi. Lois Brewster, bapt. Nov. 11, 1744; living in 1765.
• xii. Elias Brewster, bapt. May 8, 1748; not included in father's 1752 estate.
• xiii. Joanna Brewster, bapt. Apr. 26, 1752; living in 1765.

Benjamin's estate was originally distributed Nov. 30, 1753 to the widow Sarah with her dower rights, or thirds, and to the living children. Following the death of second wife Sarah, on Mar. 18, 1765 Benjamin's son Simon petitioned the court for partition of his deceased stepmother's dower rights, which was made on April 9, 1765. The 1765 distribution was made to eldest son William, 2nd son Simon, 3rd son Abel, 4th son Amos, 5th son Cyrus, 6th son Jonas and to the three daughters Elizabeth, Lois and Joanna (Norwich Probate District, Packet #1477).
