Percy Cochran March was named after his father's commanding officer in the Civil War, Union Captain James R. Percy, a brave and gallant engineer of the 53rd Ohio Regiment.

Percy Cochran March moved to Virginia and married Margaret Peters Sheffey of Smyth County. He and his wife moved to El Paso, Texas about 1911; Percy Cochran March went to work at a large wholesale hardware company.
