Major Daniel F. McRae (1822-1910), Company I, 5th and 7th Georgia Infantry. His biography and service to the Confederacy are noted in the Mann's "History of Telfair County From 1812-1949" (1978:88). McRae, began his service in the commissary department with the 15th Georgia; re-enlisted in the 56th Georgia. In 1864 he re-enlisted again, this time with Co. I of the 7th Georgia Militia.
Maj. McRae was a member of the Fifteenth and Fifty-sixth regiments of Georgia militia, held three commissions as major, and was brevetted colonel. He was in command of the police brigade during the siege of Atlanta; was in front of the army marching through Georgia, and at the battle of Griswoldville, near Macon in 1864 and was later in Command of a Brigade during the Siege of Atlanta. He died in 1910 and is buried in McRae, Georgia.
