Catharine M. Smithgall, 71, of 549 W. Lemon St., died Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. at her home after a prolonged illness. She was the widow of George Smithgall, who died in 1953. A resident of Lancaster all her life, she had been part owner of Smithgall Bros. Pharmacy. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Lancaster County Pharmaceutical Association auxiliary. Born in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Matilda Schaeffer Gerhart. Survivors include two sons, George Smithgall Jr., at home; and Charles W. Smithgall, Lancaster; one granddaughter; and a sister, Bertha Pachelbel, Lancaster. (Lancaster New Era - May 24, 1979)
