Richard L. "R.L." Spencer

Early Life: R.L. was born November 15, 1914, in Indianola, Utah, a son of Richard "Leo" and Grace Adalaide Nelson Spencer. He received his early education in Indianola and lived there until he was 16. He moved with his family to Gunnison, Springville, then Provo, Utah.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: On November 12, 1938, R.L. married Nina Froisland in Provo, Utah. He lived in Hasty, Colorado, for a time, and for 30 years, resided in El Monte, California, returning to Provo in 1981. He was a heavy equipment operator and worked in the construction business. He helped build Deer Creek Dam, the John Martin Dam in Colorado, the Santa Fe Dam in Southern California, and many other public works. Since his retirement, he has been active with the Provo Senior Citizens. R.L. enjoyed fishing, hunting, and a member of the Oak Hills 7th Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Richard "R.L." Spencer passed from this life Friday, May 25, 1984, at his home following a lingering illness. He was 69.
Survived By: His wife, of Provo; three sons and two daughters: Russell Spencer, of Provo, UT; W. Doyle Spencer, of Long Beach, CA; Nadine Spencer, of Springfield, MO.; Christian F. Spencer, of Evanston, WY; and Renee Spencer, of Brentwood, CA.; nine grandchildren; a brother and five sisters: Harold Leo Spencer, of Irvington, AL; Gertrude S. Nash (Robert), of Orem, UT; Bernice S. Packard (Grant), Provo, UT; Oris S. Merrill (Kenneth), Provo, UT; Renee S. Brewer (Lee), Salt Lake City, UT; and Geneve Marks (Dan), of Lompoc, CA.
