Alice (age 12) appears on the 1900 U S Federal Census with her parents, Charles E and "Nellie" (Marcella) White. Four siblings also appear on this census: George (13), Ray (10), Rex (2) and Hazel (3 months). Another brother, Earle, was born to the family in 1892, but died that same year. The family lives near North Loup, Nebraska, in an area titled: Independent. Her father was born in Massachusetts and her mother was born in New York. The family attended the Seventh Day Baptist Church of North Loup, Nebr.

On December 27, 1910, Alice was married to Merrill Warren Van Horn, at her parent's home in Mira Valley, Valley County, Nebraska. The year might be 1909. The 1910 U S Federal Census (usually May-July of a year) finds Alice with the last name of Van Horn, and she lives in Indepenent, Valley Co, Neb. Her mother's obituary in 1921, tells that Alice lives in North Loup, Nebraska. Three boys were born to Alice and Merrill: and infant son (1914-1914), Donald LeRoy Van Horn (1916) and Irvin M. VanHorn (1917).

There was a Seventh Day Baptist Church in Garwin, Iowa. They have moved their church membership from North Loup, Nebr. to Garwin, Iowa.
