Birth date from age at death. But see caveat on death date below.
(His birthdate according to the Randall Genealogy would be before parent's marriage they give.)

Amos's death should be 16 October 1848.
Amos Thomas's Will was signed by him 13 September 1848 and registered by his wife Jane Thomas 21 October 1848.
1849 seen on his replacement gravestone was likely a mistaken reading of a much older gravestone.

Family stories (in Canada) said Amos was born in Wales, emigrated to US in late 1700s. We find that was not true. The original Thomas immigrant, John Thomas, arrived in Plymouth County, Mass soon after the Mayflower pilgrims. According to the Pilgrim Fathers website, Amos Thomas b.1767 was son of Lieut. Amos Thomas b.1747; son of Ruth White Thomas b.1715; daughter of Joseph White b.1677; son of Daniel White b.1649; son of Peregrine White b. 1620 aboard the Mayflower; son of William White and Susanna Jackson, both born in England and both Mayflower passengers.

The Thomas families moved from Massachusetts to Connecticut, and then to Upper New York State where Amos and his sons farmed for 40 years. Then, looking for new lands in the 1830s, scattered to Ontario, Canada, and to Illinois and Minnesota and farther west.

This Amos Thomas and wife Jane (named in his Will) and eldest son Amos and his family moved to Ontario, Canada. The two families settled first in Aldborough Tp and then in Mosa Tp, in the Big Bend of the Thames River near Wardsville, Ontario West.

After Amos Sr died in 1848, his widow Jane (nee Randall) returned to the Mohawk Valley and is listed in 1850 and 1855 censuses living with her youngest daughter, Ruth Thomas Wilson and her husband Rev. Joseph Wilson, in Schroeppel, near Oswego, NY. Jane Randall Thomas died in 1859 and is buried with son Elias Thomas and family in Pennellville, NY. (See their gravestones on Jane's memorial.)
