President of Medallion Television, the first national independent television syndication. John Ettlinger first entered show business as manager of a theater in New York. He eventually came to Hollywood where he was sales executive at KTLA Television station and then formed his own company. He was also co-owner of the ABC affiliate TV and Radio station KUDO in Las Vegas. He served in World War II with the Army Signal Corps and was awarded a Bronze Star. Like his grandfather, John D. Hertz, founder of Hertz Car Rental, Ettlinger was a thoroughbred race horse owner and avid sportsman. He owned and raced horses at several California tracks. He died in Cannes, France while exhibiting at the MIP-TV Convention. His daughter, a company officer was with him.
