Mildred Sutton, 100, of Blackduck, MN died Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Northern Pines Care Center in Blackduck, MN

She was born January 4, 1905 in Edwards, Nebraska the daughter of Daniel A. and Elnora (Cameron) Mapes. She grew up in North Platte and Wolbach, Nebraska. She graduated from Sutherland High School. She received her B.S. degree from Kearney State College. After graduating she taught school at different places in Nebraska. In 1942 she moved to the Kelliher area. She married Glen M. Sutton June 7, 1943 in Saum, MN. They moved to Kelliher where she was a teacher and served as a principal during her 24 years there. She retired in 1970. They moved to Bristle Cone Manor in Bemidji in 1973. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and its Ladies Group, past member of Bemidji Women's Study Club and belonged to the Retired Teacher Association.

Mildred leaves behind a granddaughter Ruth Schneider of Emporia, Kansas; grandson, Glen Silbaugh of El Dorado, Kansas; 5 great grandchildren; Taylor and Ashley Schneider, Nicholas and Kristen Silbaugh, and Eric Ravenscraft; sister Josephine Mapes of California; adopted son, John Silbaugh; daughter-in-law Alta Mae Hedrick of Potwin, Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993 and sister Ruby Hunter.

They had been married 17 years and had 8 children, 6 living. Children: Raymond (13), Harold (10), Hazel (8), Mildred (5), Ruby (3), and Josephine (1).

1920 Census: Daniel Mapes (47) born about 1873 in Kansas, was lliving at Sutherland, Lincoln, Nebraska. Occupation - paperer in a factory. He was married to Elnoria Mapes (44) born about 1876 in Nebraska. Occupation - clerk in a post office. Children: Hazel (17), Mildred (14), Ruby (13) Josephine (10) and Leonard (5).
