OBITUARY Seguin Daily News September 12th, 2013
Allen Arthur Achterberg, age 50, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Baylor University Hospital in Dallas, Texas after an extended illness. He was born on March 6, 1963 in Seguin, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joyce Barbara (Koenig) and Herbert Gus Achterberg, and by his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his sister Katherine Ruth Achterberg, brother Robert Lee Achterberg and brother David Anton Achterberg; nieces Elaine Rose Pereira (Wesley) and Barbara Lynn Achterberg (partner Carl) and nephew Robert "Robbie" Lee Achterberg, Jr.; great nieces Lesley and Lilly and great nephews Christian and Robbie; cousins Kenneth Hacker (Robin), Douglas Hacker and Carolyn Agado (John). Allen graduated from Southwest Texas State (now Texas State University) in 1986 and spent the next 25 years teaching. He was most recently employed by the Dallas Independent School District and was the DISD Teacher of the Year in 2007. Visitation will be held at the Goetz Memorial Chapel in Seguin on Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM, with interment at 5:00PM, at the Achterberg Cemetery near Olmos. The family wishes to acknowledge the friendship, support and assistance provided by his extended Dallas family over the course of his lifetime and by the doctors and staff of the Baylor University Hospital in Dallas over the past few weeks. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice.
