Funeral Services Held in City for Civil War Soldier
Last rites for Aaron Whisler, 86, veteran of the civil war, who died Thursday at his home, 4823 North-east Twenty-third avenue, were held yesterday at the Wilson-Chambers mortuary, with interment at the Rose City cemetery.
Mr. Whisler was born in Indianapolis, Ind., February 25, 1948. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the 155th Indiana volunteer regiment and served through the civil war. He returned after the conflict to finish his education in Indianapolis. On July 4, 1871, he was married to Miss Mary Settles [sic].
He came to Oregon in 1904 and moved to Portland in 1911, where he resided up to his death.
Surviving are his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Annie L. Rice and Mrs. Tillie Higerty [sic], both of Portland; two sons, Harry C. Whisler, Portland, and John E. Whisler, Sherwood; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a half brother, H. G. Whisler, Chicago.
