John Park Hill 1942-2013

John Park Hill, 70, of Owasso, Okla., died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at his home in Oklahoma.

John was born at Fulton, Kan., on Oct. 5, 1942, the son of Robert Fredrick and Johanna Fern Moore Hill. He attended school in Fulton, moved to Chanute and later lived in Independence, Mo. The last six years he lived with his daughter and her husband in Owasso.

He married Maretta Hurst on Nov. 28, 1963 in Chanute. They divorced in 1985 and she survives.

John served in the Army National Guard overseas approximately two years.

He graduated from Chanute Auto Mechanic School in 1965.

John was employed and retired from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, Independence, Mo., with 25 years of service.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family.

John is survived by a daughter, Gay "Lynn" Huckans and her husband, Donald, of Owasso; a son, John Glenn Hill and his wife, Angela, of Chanute; four grandsons, Gary Lee Gammill of Chanute, Dustin Gammill of Owasso, Skylar Hill of the USAF, Great Falls, Mont., and Sheldon Hill of Chanute; two brothers, Charles Hill and wife, Ruth, of Warsaw, Mo., and Robert Hill of Wichita; four sisters, Barbara Heinecke of Sugar Creek, Mo., Itha McMillan of Chanute, Kay Patton and husband, Johnnie, of Chanute, and Brenda Baker and husband, Dennis, of Joplin, Mo.; six nieces; four nephews; and 15 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents, one infant brother, Robert LeRoy Hill, one sister, Rosalie Krone; and three brothers-in-law.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice and may be left with the funeral home.
