Robert Rosemeyer, 96, of Soldiers Grove, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove.

He was born in Beloit, Wisconsin on April 12, 1920 to Archie and Velma (Bennett) Rosemeyer. He was the oldest of five children. He married June Lillian Slade in 1940 in Elkader, Iowa.

He drove truck for E. Tex Reddick and King Edward Tobacco Co. He also owned his own truck for several years doing general hauling. In season, he hauled apples for the local orchards, making a round trip to Milwaukee or Chicago daily. Later, he worked for the Crawford County Highway Department until he retired about 1990. He also farmed in the Soldiers Grove/ Yankeetown area where he and June raised their family.

He was a longtime member of the Community of Christ Church, where he spent many days working when the new church was built. He also helped maintain the grounds. He liked to fix old tractors and old engines. He was always repairing something for the neighbors. He was a man of few words with a heartwarming smile.

He is survived by two sons, brother, eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June; his parents; daughter Sonja, and two brothers.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Community of Christ Church at Montgomeryville, rural Soldiers Grove. Elder John Johnson officiated and burial was in the Montgomeryville Cemetery. The Sime Funeral Home in Readstown served the family.
