Sarah Nealie Coon, 87, sister of Herald-Banner Society Editor Ollie Coon, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday in Greenville after a two-year illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Kavanaugh Methodist Chapel with the Rev. Ed. T. Hayes, the Rev. Harrison Baker and the Rev. Roemer Hudler officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery under direction of Coker-Mathews-Peters Funeral Home.

A resident of Greenville for about 16 years, she had previously lived in Dallas. She was born Dec. 25, 1879 in Moxville, N.C., the daughter of Capt. Wm. Palley and Cassandra Sain Coon.

She was a member of the Kavanaugh Methodist Church, a charter member of the Altrusa Golden Age Club, and the Manning-Bowman Sunday School Class.

Miss Coon had an outstanding interest in and knowledge of sports and sports events.

Survivors include three sisters, Miss Ollie Coon and Mrs. L.E. Creasy of Greenville and Mrs. M.A. Wallace of Midland and several nieces and nephews, including Ralph Taylor of Greenville.

Friends may call at the Coker-Mathews-Peters Funeral Home until time for services.

Pallbearers will be Dale Nix, Raymond Kerr, Raymond Graves, Paul Horton, C.V. Roberts and Howard Thomas.
