George W. Stockdale was born on February 28,1875, in Monroe County, Indiana. He was the son of Eli and Dorcas Ann Hicks Stockdale. His parents had married on August 26, 1859, in Indiana, possibly in Jackson County as the federal index listed Eli and Dorcas Ann "Stogsdill" in Carr township, Jackson County, Indiana.

They had at least the following children based on the 1870 and 1880 Federal censuses for location Berkley, Jasper County, Indiana: Mary E. Stockdale, born about 1861 in Indiana; John W. Stockdale, born about 1867 in Indiana; Eliza E. Stockdale, born about November/December 1869 in Indiana; Ella Stockdale, born 1870 in Indiana (possibly Eliza E Stockdale?); Ardilla Stockdale, born about 1873 in Indiana; George Stockdale, born about 1874 in Indiana; Marcus Stockdale, born about 1874 in Indiana; and Ida Belle Stockdale.

On November 18, 1911, George W. Stockdale and Eva Holmes Gers were married in Indiana. Eva was the daughter of Isaac and Martha Hollingshead Howell, born on May 11, 1870.

Stockdale – George W. Stockdale passed away at the Schneck hospital in Seymour Saturday morning, following a five weeks' illness of a complication of diseases, aged 59 years.

Deceased was born in Monroe county in 1875. He is survived by his wife [Eva Stocksdale] and one son, David, aged 12. He also leaves two step daughters, Mrs. Leo Engleking and Mrs. Josie Polly, of Surprise, and two step-sons, John Gers of Pierceton and W. A. Gers, of Kingsbury.

Funeral services were conducted at the Nazarene church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial in the Acme cemetery.

Note: a marriage license was announced for William Morrison, 59, farmer, of Spraytown, son of James Morrison, deceased, to Eva Stocksdale, 43, domestic work, of Seymour, daughter of Isaac Howell, deceased. This was published in the Brownstown Banner (now Jackson County Banner – Brownstown, Indiana) 10 March 1926, Wednesday, page 1.

Eva May Howell Gers Stockdale Morrison died on February 21, 1941, in Seymour, Indiana.
