Ida Bell Stockdale was born on October 1, 1880, in Jasper County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Eli and Dorcas Ann Hicks Stockdale. Her parents had married on August 26, 1859, in Indiana, possibly in Jackson County as the federal index listed Eli and Dorcas Ann "Stogsdill" in Carr township, Jackson County, Indiana.

They had at least the following children based on the 1870 and 1880 Federal censuses for location Berkley, Jasper County, Indiana: Mary E. Stockdale, born about 1861 in Indiana; John W. Stockdale, born about 1867 in Indiana; Eliza E. Stockdale, born about November/December 1869 in Indiana; Ella Stockdale, born 1870 in Indiana (possibly Eliza E Stockdale?); Ardilla Stockdale, born about 1873 in Indiana; George Stockdale, born about 1874 in Indiana; Marcus Stockdale, born about 1874 in Indiana; and Ida Belle Stockdale.

Miss Ida Stockdale, who came from Indianapolis on a visit a short while ago, died at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Heiten. Her father and mother having preceded her to the grave. "She was born in Jasper county, Indiana, October 1, 1880. She was a member of the Christian church and but a short time before her death said she was ready to die. Funeral was conducted by Rev. Shutts, after which the remains were laid to rest at the Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Ida Bell Stockdale died of pulmonary tuberculosis.
