MERKT – In this city, May 8, 1892, Emil, beloved son of Emil and Anna Merkt and brother of Anna Merkt , a native of San Francisco, aged 8 months and 8 days.
Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral
THIS DAY (Tuesday) at 2 o'clock p. m., from the residence of his parents, 141½ Shipley street, between Folsom and Harrison, near Sixth. Interment I. O. O. F. cemetery.

In 1914, a San Francisco ordinance required that all remains be removed from the city. The remains were transferred to Greenlawn Cemetery in Colma. However, only if relatives paid for removal were the bodies reburied and their headstones reset. In most cases the bodies were put into mass graves and the tombstones used as material for a breakwater in the bay.
